How it works

Massage therapy has a long history in cultures around the world. Today, people use many different types of massage therapy for a variety of health-related purposes: for pain relief, fertility, stress reduction, relaxation, and general wellness.  US government surveys report that more than 18 million adults and 700,000 children each year receive the benefits of massage.

Massage can help your body produce natural biochemistry to relax, improve circulation, and get rid of cell wastes that builds in our muscles as they work. Relaxation from massage can improve your immune system too. Since massage stretches and relaxes muscles and moves joints, the joints become easier to move and their range of motion is increased.

Mayan Abdominal Massage is a special form of massage that uses slow, deep techniques to release deep muscle tissue spasms in the abdomen.  It is credited as for preventing and correcting fallen, tilted uterus and for promoting the normal flow of blood, lymph, nerves and energy throughout the entire body. Passed down through midwives and traditional healers in Belize and Honduras, the Mayan Abdominal therapies available today include adjunctive therapies that support and sustain the effect of the treatments -- belly wraps, steams and self-care massage.  These traditional techniques correct poor hemodynamics of the abdomen and its many organs to promote vital to digestion, assimilation, elimination, secretions and reproduction. Abdominal massage sessions offer non- invasive massage treatment on the abdomen and back that works to soften musculature, align the pelvic bones, adjust the uterus to its proper position, release muscular armoring in the trunk and enhance circulation of blood and lymphatic fluids, elimination, and secretion of hormones.

Getting Your Massage

Scheduling your massage is easy and you have a few options to consider. When you call to schedule you need to let us know how long you want your massage to be. Sessions are 60 or 90 minutes.

The initial session is 90 minutes.  Follow up treatments can be either 60 or 90 minutes.  Longer session enable the therapist to devote more time to more areas such as your upper or  lower back, legs and feet, arms and hands, neck and shoulders, and head.

Your massage takes place in a warm quiet room.  Our massage table is especially cozy and beautiful: maple trim with extra cushy padding and width.

Guidelines for a Fantastic Massage

Avoid eating directly before your massage session.

If you have a blood vessel disease, skin infection or have been diagnosed with cancer, certain types of massage will not be for you.  Just let us know your concern and Noreen will speak with you about the appropriateness of Arvigo Therapies and massage in general.

If you have a fever or are coming down with a cold or flu, massage is not an appropriate treatment.

Before & during your massage, let your massage therapist know what feels helpful and provide feedback on pressure and technique.
